Children's String Ensemble
Newton Music Academy offers chamber music coaching of string, piano, guitar, and mixed ensembles of all levels and ages. Students will be placed by age, ability, and instrumentation. Each group will receive 28 coaching sessions and 2 end-of-semester workshops. Auditions — September 9, 2007.
Placement and Auditions
Placement for String Ensemble is by audition. Assignments are made by level, not age. Our panel of teachers will place each student in the most appropriate group for his/her level.
Minimum technical requirements for beginning level
Students must demonstrate by audition that they have mastered basic technical aspects of playing the instrument and can read music.
Repertoire requirements
- For beginning level: performing two contrasting pieces.
- For intermediate and advanced levels: performing one or two prepared pieces and one scale of applicant’s choice. Sight-reading may be requested by the panel.

Students are required to participate in two performances a year.
